Copper Leaf Kintsugi Raku Dragon Medallion Urn 9 1/4" tall including Raindrop Lid by 5 1/2" wide This piece will hold up to about 100 lbs. living weight of ashes. Kintsugi Pottery is an ancient technique of embracing flaws and imperfections in a piece by repairing and finishing with gold (or another precious metal) to raise the piece to a higher, more refined and valuable level. The underlying symbolic message is one of it expresses out ability to rise above our imperfections and challenges, through resiliency and healing to attain rebirth and a higher state of being. I threw this urn on the wheel and threw the raindrop merging into ocean waves on the lid before bique firing it. It was then glazed and fired in a raku kiln. At a precise temperature it was quickly pulled and "reduced" in a trash can to produce the elemental effects. After firing it was embellished with copper leaf in the Kintsugi method. It has been sealed inside and out with an acrylic sealer for durability and protection and to retard the copper from tarnishing. The wooden base is sold in Customizations for $20. The lid can be temporarily sealed with museum wax or permanently sealed with an epoxy glue.
