This exquisitely carved piece is made from Bog Oak by Author and Sculptor, Edward White. Bog Oak originates from ancient forests that once covered the length of Ireland and can range in age from 3,000 to 8,000 years old. This remarkable wood is highly coveted by collectors and when unearthed can be more precious than Gold itself. Depicting the Western Grebe during its mating ritual, the dark black ebony finish is entirely natural and comes from the tannin in the wood reacting with the water in which it was immersed for hundreds of years. Bog-Oak represents the very earliest stages of the fossilisation process, which ultimately makes these pieces much more desirable as each design is completely original in every respect.
